What counts
- possession
- Points scored by the team that gained the ball, from the moment they gained it until possession changed again. Taken from the running score on each play, so and-one free throws are included.
- make
- The shot was made and the opponent inbounded it. The possession is counted only if play resumed directly, with no free throw, timeout or other stoppage in between.
- miss
- The shot was missed, UNBLOCKED, and the opponent secured a live defensive rebound. A blocked shot is excluded: it is a different transition. An offensive rebound is not a change of possession and is excluded too.
- exclusions
- A possession is excluded when a free throw, any timeout, a foul, a jump ball, a dead-ball rebound or the end of a period falls between the shot and the restart -- that possession began off a whistle and says nothing about the shot.
- zone
- rim is this project's PAINT zone, a rectangle rather than a four-foot radius. corner_3 and above_break_3 split the arc. Roughly 12% of attempts carry no usable location and appear under an unlocated bucket.
- ppp
- Points per possession, two decimals. Null when possessions is 0.
